Exports to China soar

China continues to be South Australia’s largest two-way trading partner with latest exports reaching a record $4.43 billion in the 12 months to October 2024, growing by 45 per cent.

South Australia’s annual total exports remained above $17 billion according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures.

South Australia’s wine exports to China continue to grow since tariffs were lifted, with South Australian wine exceeding $500 million, compared to the previous year when wine exports were valued at just $2.8 million.

Copper remains the state’s highest value export to China, up 19 per cent to a record $985 million in the last 12 months. Barley exports to China have also seen a significant increase, five times higher than the previous year at $556.8 million.

The United States is South Australia’s second largest export market, growing by 30 per cent to $2.08 billion, followed by India, valued at $1.11 billion, up four per cent on the previous year.

Beef exports to the United States have grown by 351.9 per cent from $59.8 million to $270.4 million, while globally, beef exports have more than doubled from $208.9 million to $513.8 million.

Coinciding with the Australia versus India Test Series in Adelaide over the weekend, the South Australian Government hosted high-level meetings with delegations from India to explore further trade and investment opportunities across food, wine and agribusiness, critical technologies and space.
