Strong year for exports in 2024

Exports for South Australia have continued their strong momentum with the state recording one of the strongest year-end export results on record, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data. 
 
2024 has seen the state’s exports valued at $17.09 billion, surpassing the five-year average of $15.19 billion by 12.5 per cent, behind 2023 only.
 
When compared to pre-COVID levels in 2019, the state’s 2024 exports have grown by over 50 per cent in value with an increase of $5.9 billion. 
 
In 2024, four of the state’s top five export commodities increased year-on-year, including:
 
·       Meat (up 56 per cent to $1.3 billion)
·       Wine (up 39 per cent to $1.8 billion)
·       Metal ores (up 14 per cent to $1.6 billion)
·       Non-ferrous metals (up 10 per cent to $3.1 billion).
 
South Australia’s relationship with its largest two-way trading partner, China, has also surged with a 33 per cent uplift to $4.39 billion in 2024, followed by the United States which increased by 12 per cent to $1.97 billion. 
 
Seafood exports to China grew 90.1 per cent in 2024, with Southern Rock Lobster exports in December alone valued at $3.5 million following the removal of trade restrictions on 20 December.
 
The state’s third largest export partner, Malaysia, experienced a 16 per cent dip in 2024, remaining just above $1 billion.
