South Australia’s world-class medical precinct on show at global tech event

30 Jan 2023
South Australian medical and biotech companies will get the opportunity to pitch to global investors at a major trade event in the Middle East, running from 30 January to 02 February 2023.

The Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, held at Dubai’s World Trade Centre, will provide local companies the international platform to showcase their world-class medical products, devices and capability.

A record nine South Australian companies will present their high-tech innovations to industry leaders at the three-day event, which features 3000 exhibitors from 70 countries, spanning a global network of health groups, medical clinics, manufacturers and distributors.

Among the local companies presenting at the event are Fusetec – an Adelaide firm using 3D-printing to make human body parts for surgeons to use as teaching aids – and Thebarton-based BiomeBank, which is developing life-saving microbiome-based therapies to treat disease.

They are being joined by Micro-X designs, PlasmaShield, TekCyte, BIONAT Australia Pty Ltd, Flourish Pharmaceuticals Australia, RehabSwift, and Surgical Order (SOx).

More than 100,000 people are expected to attend in-person, with a further 51,000 touted to tune in online.

For the first time ever, the Department for Trade and Investment has its own booth at the event, supporting the SA companies involved.

South Australia’s world-class biomedical precinct is fast becoming more widely recognised across the globe as a smart investment.

The North Terrace precinct recently attracted a $14 million deal from a leading Japanese biotech company to the state, which will see Adelaide become the base for world-leading clinical trials for the treatment of neurological disorders.
