Strategic pillars of support
To ensure the seafood industry is poised to make the most of the opportunity should regulations be altered in China to permit the reopening of trade, the program will provide the following:
- Support for SA seafood exporters to attend major international trade events
- Bringing key seafood importers to South Australia for familiarisation visits
- A marketing campaign for international audiences, including China and Japan.

Exporter capability building
The seafood sector will have access to:
- Up-to-date insights into the global seafood market, including market trends, regulatory issues, consumer trends and preferences, and opportunities.
- Industry updates for the Southeast, West Coast and Adelaide, enhanced by specialised export advisory services provided by TradeStart and international offices.
- Exporters will be supported through TradeStart and Food SA’s business services partnership, providing Food SA member companies with business and export advisory services delivered by the two organisations.
Export advisory
A team of TradeStart Export Advisers based in South Australia are available for export guidance, market research, business introductions, business matching, market entry assistance-compliance, market access, and legal considerations. TradeStart Export Advisers are available all year round to support businesses to develop export growth plans, assess market selection, entry strategies, grants and support connections with international opportunities through South Australia’s global offices and the Austrade network.
Two-way market activation and immersion
To drive connections with key industry and customers in priority markets, the program will provide support to the South Australian seafood sector through coordinated trade missions to key industry events in priority markets.

- Market intelligence and insight sessions.
An inbound trade immersion will also be coordinated during fishing season with the South Australian seafood sector for leading seafood importers and trade from priority markets to visit South Australia’s seafood industry and meet with local producers.
Additional support will be provided for exporters through existing programs at major international trade shows.
The Australian and South Australian Governments continue to advocate with Chinese authorities for the removal of a ban on Australian live rock lobster imports, which has been in place since late 2020.

Marketing campaigns
A multi-channel campaign will raise awareness of South Australian seafood in key markets including Japan and China. This initiative will feature tailored social media content, consumer and editorial engagement and endorsements from key opinion leaders.
